Bio and Teacher Training:
I began my teaching career in 2005. I am currently employed at Texas Southern University as an Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education, previously an Assistant Professor of STEM Education. Prior to that I served as a middle and high school mathematics teacher for the Escambia County School District and a tenured professor of mathematics at Pensacola State College. I am a former member of the Florida Education Association and a current member of the National Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, Texas Alliance of Black School Educators, Research Association of Minority Professors, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
I have served as a subject area expert for the Florida DOE’s Florida Teacher Certification Examination (FTCE) Item Validation Committee, and I have presented on various educational topics. My research interests include the impact of teacher care on teaching and learning, the incorporation of culturally responsive teaching into daily classroom instructions, and the design of mathematics and science classrooms that promote active student involvement.
