Students Deserve the Best. One of our newest instructors at the University of West Florida’s TeacherReady is Pensacola native Dr. Reginald L. Todd. I had the pleasure of meeting Dr. Todd’s mother about a year ago; a retired educator, Dr. Todd’s mother continues to be an advocate for children and education. I have no doubt that while Dr. Todd began his teaching career in October of 2005, through the example set by his mother and many more outstanding educators in our county, his dynamic impact upon his students and the community that he has served extends far beyond the past 11 years. He is truly an exceptional educator.
Our students deserve the best, so working with TeacherReady to help prepare our teacher candidates to impact the lives of their future students is simply amazing!
Dr. Todd is a proud 2005 graduate of Florida A&M University, located on the highest of seven hills, in Tallahassee, Florida earning a B.S. in Mathematics Education. He is also a three-time graduate of the University of West Florida where he obtained a M.Ed. in Secondary Education in 2007, an Ed.S. in 2009 and an Ed.D. in 2015, both in Curriculum and Diversity Studies.
This year Dr. Todd joined the faculty of Texas Southern University as an Assistant Professor of STEM Education. Prior to that he served as a middle and high school mathematics teacher for the Escambia County School District (FL) and a tenured professor of mathematics at Pensacola State College. He is a former member of the Florida Education Association and a current member of the National Education Association, the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
Dr. Todd has served as a subject area expert for the Florida Department of Education’s Florida Teacher Certification Exams (FTCEs) Item Validation Committee, and he has presented on various educational topics. His research interests include the impact of teacher care on teaching and learning, the incorporation of culturally responsive teaching into daily classroom instructions, and the design of mathematics and science classrooms that promote active student involvement.
We are so excited to highlight Dr. Reggie Todd and the experience and passion he brings to TeacherReady. We know from our work that new educators do best when they are mentored from day one. Dr. Todd and our TeacherReady instructors play an important role in educating and mentoring future teachers, some who may become future colleagues! Thank you, Dr. Todd, for being a difference maker for future teachers so that, most importantly, students will get our best.
