Key Word Messages #ProfDev

 In Professional Development

Key words help teachers maximize their interactions with students and parents. When teachers key word messages to students and to parents, we provide clear communication, whether it be of expectations or to reduce anxiety about the first day of school, or testing. For this reason and many others, there is great power when teachers key word messages. The power of using key words is articulated in the following video recommended by Harvard author John Kotter.

As teachers, when we focus on how to use key words it helps us maximize our student interactions, which helps us develop partnerships with our students. For example, when teachers key word messages, we help reduce students’ anxiety and let them know that we care about them and that we want them to be successful.
