Kim Handy

Dr. Handy holds an Ed.D. in Administrator Leadership for Teaching and Learning from Walden University, Minneapolis, MN. Two M.S.Ed. degrees, a M.Ed. degree, a B.S. degree, and an e-Learning certificate. I also hold a current professional teaching certificate from Alaska, with endorsement in English for Grades 7-12, administrative certificates from Alaska, with endorsement as a principal (K-12) and superintendent (K-12).

I have nine years of professional teaching experience in secondary schools in the Anchorage School District. My area of expertise is language arts, and I currently teach English and American Literature to 9th- and 10th-grade students. Anchorage School District’s highly diverse student population has allowed me to teach and interact with students with wide-ranging backgrounds and academic abilities. The urban district has very high racial diversity; the most abundant ethnicity is only 30% of the student population. Academically, the district is also very diverse, with special education students, ESL students, National Merit Finalists, and Presidential Scholars.

I am currently working with the Common Core State Standards aligning those standards to Alaska’s Secondary English Language Arts program. Also, I am a teacher mentor and have taken several classes on mentoring teachers through out the Anchorage School District.
